Spanish police will reinforce security in Madrid to avoid attacks – Prensa Latina

December 27, 2016, 11:58 amMadrid, 27 dec (PL) and The Spanish national police will strengthen the system security to avoid terrorist attacks during the celebrations of the end of the year, reported the delegate of the government in this capital, Concepción Dancausa.

Placed obstacles such as planters, bollards and heavy-duty vehicles in the central plaza of the Puerta del Sol, where thousands of people gather on the 31st of December to welcome the new year.

Also located on that day elements of containment in the popular San Silvestre race, which involved hundreds of riders, as well as in the traditional cavalcade of the three Kings, which runs through the centre of the Spanish capital on January 5.

According to said Dancausa to the press, the goal is to prevent attacks like the one that took place recently in Berlin, where a truck broke into a christmas market and caused the death of 12 people.

The attack was similar to an attack in July in the French city of Nice, where 85 people died run over by another truck in full celebration of the national holiday.

In Spain, the terrorist alert level is located on four, on a scale of five, from June 2015.

This means increased police presence on the streets, in addition to an increase in special surveillance infrastructures sensitive, such as nuclear power plants and electrical installations, and also in airports, train stations and buses.

‘The absolute safety can not be guaranteed, but we do have the assurance and confidence that our security forces work tirelessly to protect us and that certainly is a source of tranquility for all,” he added Dancausa.
