Kidnapped a cooperating Spanish in Afghanistan – Deutsche Welle

A cooperating Spanish, worker of the International Committee of the Red Cross, is held in Afghanistan, according to confirmed sources from the Spanish Government. The same sources, who declined to talk of “kidnapping” by the time, reported that the cooperator was “retained” in a control road to the north of the country, in an area where “there are similar situations frequently.”

The Government of Mariano Rajoy launched the protocol corresponding to these cases, and “working with the Red Cross” to try to put in freedom to the Spanish worker, explained from The Moncloa. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Monday that one of its employees was “hijacked” that day in Afghanistan about 11 hours (local), but did not give details about his identity or his nationality.

“Several staff members were traveling in two vehicles from Mazar-e-Sharif to Kunduz when unidentified armed men detained them. A colleague of the male sex was retained, while the others were allowed to continue their trip”, the agency said in a statement. “We are extremely concerned for the safety of our colleague. We are doing everything we can to find out what exactly happened and seek their release in a safe manner and unconditional as soon as possible”, said the head of the ICRC delegation in Afghanistan, Monica Zanarelli.

The agency said to be in contact with various authorities to try to achieve the liberation of man. The ICRC has been present in Afghanistan for about thirty years. Provides medical care, providing support to water and sanitation services and acts as a neutral intermediary to undertake the humanitarian activities, as explained (dpa).
