Police officers are arrested in France a member of ETA sought by Spain – Terra.com

Agents of the French police arrested today the member of the armed group ETA (Basque Country and Freedom), José Manuel Azkarate Ramos, aka “Manu”, in the southern port of Marseille, officials said.

The inmate, 53 years of age, was carrying false documentation, according to sources close to the operation, in which collaborated the General Commissariat of Information of the National Police of Spain.

Azkarate Ramos was wanted for years by the Spanish police and was a fugitive.

The detainee is involved in Spain in the murder of a lieutenant retired colonel committed in the Basque Country of spain in 1984 and in an attack against a military convoy that killed two soldiers and a civilian.

on The 12th of October the French police seized a large arsenal of weapons of ETA in the north of France and in November he was arrested in a village in the southwest of France, the main leader of the band.

ETA announced on October 20, 2011 to the end of its armed struggle but the band has not given up their weapons as demanded by the governments of France and Spain.

In Spain, the band’s separatist basque is considered to be responsible for 829 deaths since its foundation, in 1959.
