Historical memory is critical of the discourse of the Spanish King – Deutsche Welle

the Association for The Recovery of Historical Memory has filed a complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman by some of the statements made by the King in his speech to the contrary to the right of the families of the 114.226 missing. In a statement, the association has referred to the fragment in which the King yesterday, in the traditional Christmas speech, said: “this is a time to deepen in a country of open arms and hands stretched out, where no one stir old grudges or to open closed wounds”. On this, the Association believes that it is a “political statement contrary to the rights of the victims of the dictatorship” and to have been expressed “with a political character that is not the task of a head of State not elected and who has the duty to represent all of society.” In the note, stresses the need to “correct the double standards of the institutions” that “protects and guarantees” the rights of victims of terrorism, but not those affected by the franco regime, who they accuse of “stirring up old grudges” and open “closed wounds” when refirieren “to their legitimate claims” and rights as recognized by international humanitarian agencies. “We ask the Ombudsman to intervene to point out the limits of political interpretation of the monarch, and that in any case their intervention may be in conflict with the protection of human rights”, argues the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory.
