“I invite you to see the way things go as best as possible. I’m not asking for a blank cheque, I ask for maturity, that we can tell the spaniards that we have a Government that can govern,” said Rajoy.

The chairman-in-office acknowledged that it will be necessary to the dialogue, but noted that it will be within the “limits of reality” and would not negotiate the unity of Spain, with clear message to the parties catalans.

“Dialogue yes, but make no mistake, we have to negotiate within the limits that reality imposes on us all, which have nothing to do with the colour of the Government. To me he’s not allowed to negotiate the unity of Spain”, he stressed.

In his brief speech, the conservative leader insisted that “wants a Government foreseeable” and that you “can’t be delayed more”.

“Are countless business initiatives and economic leading months held in abeyance, pending clearance of the landscape, that offers something more that a investiture naked”, he said.

If all goes according to plan, Rajoy will be sworn in with the support of his party, Citizens and Coalition Canaria and to the abstention of the PSOE.
