UN extends mandate of mission on the use of chemical weapons in Syria – Prensa Latina

November 17, 2016 22:30United Nations, nov 17 (PL) The Security Council of the UN today approved unanimously the extension of the mandate by a year of the mission charged with investigating the use of chemical weapons in the syrian conflict.

Established a year ago, the mechanism has with the joint efforts of the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

According to the resolution 2319, submitted by the united States, the UN condemns all use of any toxic chemical in the country to the east, by their impact on the civilian population.

Likewise, it reiterates that the use of these weapons constitutes a serious violation of international law.

The initiative calls on the mission to identify individuals and entities responsible for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Regarding the terrorist groups that operate in that nation of the Middle East, as the Islamic State and the Front al Nusra, called to seek the support of agencies of the United Nations and countries of the region to discover its participation in such acts, in the quality of the material perpetrators, organisers or sponsors.

the West has accused the syrian government of using toxic gas in the conflict, which Damascus rejects, under the argument that these maneuvers to justify a foreign intervention.
