The us ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, gave this Monday at the un Security Council the names of a dozen colonels and generals syrians accused of having ordered an attack on civilian populations, and torturing opponents.
“you Should know that their abuses are documented and that one day they will be accountable,” said Power. “The united states will not let those who mandated units involved in these acts are hidden in anonymity behind the facade of the Assad regime,” added the american diplomat.
These military, he said, are commanders of units that bombed or attacked on the ground at civilian targets, or commanders of detention facilities of the syrian Army where systematic torture of opponents.
Those officers, he explained the us ambassador, believe in the shelter of the justice, but “also happened the same thing to Slobodan Milosevic, Charles Taylor and countless other war criminals,” he said. Power acknowledged that some armed opposition groups in Syria also committed atrocities, but not identified.
