Madrid, feb 7 (Sputnik).- The vice-president of the Spanish Government and minister for Territorial administration, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, said Tuesday in the control session the Government in the Senate that the referendum on self-determination demanded by Catalonia "it is not to celebrate".

"The official response to a self-determination referendum is that it can’t be celebrated and you are not going to celebrate," said the leader conservative.

Soraya Saenz de Santamaria denied the possibility of holding this consultation in the same way that "there is going to be held in Bavaria," or "it’s not going to be held in the Veneto region".

"And I don’t think that neither Germany, Italy and Spain we are countries with little democratic," argued the vice-president of the Executive.

The leader of the conservative Popular Party said that the Government has a "vocation" to find a solution through dialogue on the territorial conflict with Catalonia, although he added that the administration "respects the law" and under no circumstances allow the holding of a referendum.

For its part, the regional government of Catalan, governed by a coalition of independence, argued to have a democratic mandate born of the ballot box to implement a roadmap to sovereignty that leads to the holding of the aforementioned referendum, which is planned to take place before September 2017.
