Die Gea Escolano, bishop emeritus of Mondoñedo-Ferrol – Infovaticana

The bishop of Mondoñedo-Ferrol expresses its sorrow for the death of the bishop emeritus, Msgr. José Gea Escolano, who governed the diocese for eighteen years (1987-2005), occurred in the city of Valencia, in the day of today, February 6, 2017, at 87 years of age.

According to has informed the Diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol, the funeral and burial of his mortal remains will take place in the Cathedral of Valencia*, Tuesday morning, February 7, at 17:30 hours. Will be attended by the bishop of the diocese and the vicar general.

biographical information

Mons. José Gea Escolano was born in Real de Gandía, province and archdiocese of Valencia, on the 14th of June of the year 1929. Pursuing his ecclesiastical studies at the diocesan seminary of Valencia and was ordained a priest on the 29th day of June of the year 1953.

he Was appointed coadjutor of San Jaime Apostle of Moncada in 1955 and pastor of Our Lady of Fatima of Valencia in the year 1959. He was also professor of religion at a secondary school for five years, from 1955 until 1959.

Since 1957, is doctor of Theology by the Pontifical University of Salamanca and later to be professor of Moral Theology at the Theologate of the Holy Family (1960-1966); from 1870 to 1971, he was professed of Pastoral Theology.

Since 1967, is a parish priest of San Jaime Apostle of Moncada, until elected bishop.

His episcopal ordination was celebrated on the 8th of may 1971 in the S. I. Cathedral of Valencia, the diocese of which will be auxiliary bishop until the year 1976. This year will be named bishop of Ibiza and from 1987 was the bishop of our diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol, until it was accepted the waiver by the Holy see to meet the seventy-five years. Subsequently he was a missionary in Peru, in the diocese of Carabayllo (north of Lima), in the parish of St. Mary of Providence.

In the Episcopal Conference he was a member of the Episcopal Commission of Pastoral care of the Episcopal Commission of the Clergy, of the Mixed Commission of Bishops and Major Superiors and President of the Episcopal Commission of Pastoral care of Tourism.

Lately resided in his native town, Real de Gandia (Valencia).
