Valencia’s city council to remove religious symbols in public spaces – ACI Prensa

MADRID, 27 Jan. 17 / 12:26 pm (ACI).- The City of Valencia (Spain) approved last Thursday the withdrawal of religious symbols from all areas of public ownership that depend on the mayor, except that represent a capital asset, and historical, on which there is a consensus that it is relevant to do so.

According to the newspaper ABC, the spokesman of the PP in Valencia, Eusebio Monzó, stated that this motion "divides the people of valencia, returns to the Constitution of the 31 and returns to be a political gesture rather than the management, because some points are already doing, and ignores the reality, history and traditions".

as stated in the newspaper ABC, Peris said: "we’re not going to destroy churches and burn altarpieces or prevent between churches, synagogues or mosques" and accepted that they are experts who decide on what elements of cultural heritage and tradition are.

The PP announced that it will present a motion law in the Cortes of Valencia to "protect religious freedom".
