Spain asks U.S. and Mexico to restore dialogue and understanding – Terra.com

The government of Spain asked today to the united States and Mexico to “re-establish the climate of respectful dialogue, understanding and cooperation between the two countries”, after the differences of the last few days by the actions of president Donald Trump.

In the press conference after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, the spokesman of the Spanish executive, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, was asked about the position of Spain in the face of this dispute in which Mexico is a nearby country, and a partner in the ibero-american community.

“What we do is to ask for a dialog to restore the climate of respectful dialogue, understanding and cooperation between the two countries that are part of the western world, share common values and are partners in north America,” he said.

he Stressed that Spain and Mexico are two countries united by the ties of blood, history, partners in the ibero-american summits and in the international arena, so that “the mexicans know that they have the affection of the Spanish people”.

“we Believe that the united States and Mexico must be understood in the friendship, the closeness of their connection given the geography, the history, the economic reality, to be the partner of a commercial treaty, and the presence of a mexican community that has contributed much to the well-being of the united States”, he added.

Méndez de Vigo, who is also minister of Education, Culture and Sport, was considered as premature the proposal of the opposition Spanish Socialist workers Party (PSOE) of Spain to promote an Ibero-american Summit in support of Mexico and against Trump.

“My experience is that in international law there are to be firm but calm, not trying to go in a hurry. The Spanish government has expressed its position of call to respectful dialogue and understanding, and everything else is premature,” he said.

“Let’s see if the parties come to agreements and you will understand, that is what we want and need,” she said.
