Colombia chairs committee key of the World Organization of the Tourism fair Fitur – SNE

The Committee of Sustainability and Tourism held its first session with the occasion of the launch of the declaration of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, on the part of the United Nations.

Under the presidency of Colombia, the Sustainability Committee and Tourism of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held its first session of the year with a meeting open to the public, the trade fair FITUR which is carried out in Madrid and with the occasion of the launch of the declaration in 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, on the part of the UN.

"Colombia is taking steps to develop a tourism industry under the concepts of sustainability in all its axes, taking into account the communities, the culture, the destinations, the environment and the economic development of this sector as an engine of growth for the regions", stated María Claudia Lacouture, minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

During this session, the Committee addressed the importance of the consolidation of the observatories of tourism, the need to monitor and measure in real time the behavior of the sector and the momentum of this industry that promotes environmental conservation and protection to the communities and their cultures in the world.

Colombia presented the progress in terms of sustainability and quality for the tourism in the national territory, as the implementation of norms of sustainability on the part of providers and destinations, the sectorial technical standards and the management of the statistics for planning of tourism development in the regions, among others.

similarly, the country highlighted the launch of its two digital platforms as tools for the sustainability of tourism.
