Turkey judgment of 62 soldiers for a failed coup attempt – Pulse of St. Louis (press Release)

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) — Dozens of officers and soldiers are being tried in Istanbul for his alleged involvement in a failed coup d’état of July.

The 28 officers and 34 soldiers who sit on the bench on Monday had participated in the decision of Sabiha Gokcen airport of Istanbul on the night of the attempted uprising.

they Are accused of crimes against the state and, if found guilty, could face life imprisonment.

Some of the defendants denied the charges, insisting that it made them believe that they were involved in a simulation.

Turkey accuses the muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who resides in the united States, of instigating the coup. Ankara is carrying out a purge bulk of their followers in government jobs. Gulen denies any connection with the coup.

The trial of the Monday is the first in Istanbul against the military. Twenty-nine police officers are being prosecuted for allegedly failing to protect the president.
