The storm disrupted transport and affects thousands of people in Spain – El Nuevo Herald

The storm of cold and snow that whips these days a good part of Spain affected almost 4,800 travelers, caused interruptions in the transport, and left thousands of users without power.

The president of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, has moved its solidarity to the people that have been affected, and its Development minister, Íñigo of the Serna, apologized to those who were trapped in the roads and trains after the heavy snowfall of the last hours.

forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency ahead of the storm will be sending in the next few days, especially in the areas that are most affected, as the usually sunny Spanish Levant, where they live thousands of foreign residents.

The interruption more important than the transport by rail refers to have occurred in the province of Albacete (central Spain) and its connections with Madrid and Valencia (east of the country), which have affected more than five thousand people.

In terms of roads, the Government reported that it has enabled nearly 1,400 snow plows; have been applied to preventive treatments on more than 25,000 kilometres of roads; it has removed snow in about 6,400 kilometres, and have spread 5.4 million litres of brine and 7,000 tons of salt.

Some 32,000 people have been affected by power cuts in the area of Valencia after falling off a pylon.

The heavy snow recorded in Castilla-La Mancha (centre) have been left without light 20,000 neighbors in the region, although it is recovering to normal gradually.
