The Department of Justice united States are sending to more than 500 monitors and observers to see the voting sites in 28 states on the day of the election, reported miamiherald.typepad.com.
“we will Work tirelessly to ensure that every eligible person who wants to do so can vote,” said Attorney General Loretta Lynch in a statement.
The number is a reduction of around a third of the more than 780 monitors that were deployed during the election of 2012. Tuesday will be stationed in 67 jurisdictions around the country to make up for any irregularity in the voting. Will watch for violations of the rights of voting, as if voters are discriminated against because of their race or language.
“As always, our staff will perform these duties impartially, with one goal in mind: to make sure every eligible voter can participate in our elections to the full extent provided by federal law,” said Lynch on Monday.
Of the 500 people that will be deployed, sent to Alaska, California, Louisiana, New York and Alabama will be the election “observers” will have full access to the polls. Those sent to the other 24 states will be “monitors”, which means that it does not have the legal authority to access voting sites, which will have to be granted by state and local authorities.
