This Tuesday, November 8th, the cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena hosted the traditional vigil in honor of the patron saint of Madrid, presided by archbishop Carlos Osoro. In a temple full of faithful, the cardinal-elect thanked the “significant presence” of all and particularly young people, to dedicate a special word to those who, minutes before, had given testimony “of having met jesus Christ” through the weakest. As explained, it is important to reach out to “the needy, the poor, the elderly, the dying, lepers, the sick of all kinds”, because that is where “we encounter the face of God” and, in this way, “we have the possibility of giving the same love”.
In an atmosphere of prayer and listening, the prelate highlighted three words that “invite us to be in this world, to stand up and live three experiences necessary for us to meet with God and let you know: go out, find, and change.” Lea ve the world, he said, where are the men to “see and live in the circumstances in which they live”; to “find the heart of the human being”, and “go to the core of existence that moves our life” and “change the hearts of men.”
Unfortunately, these moments there are people who are of God and go “in search of the others, but to dictatorships, so that everyone will think as I do because I believe god himself”. “Are dictatorships in the modern that exist and that are on our side,” and, precisely for this reason, God is now “as important and necessary”. “We removed the chains and makes us open our eyes and see in all, absolutely all, the need to get close to them, to all without exception, not only those who think like me”, he said.
The best example is offered by the same Virgin, Santa María la Real de la Almudena, who “breaks down walls, break distances, creates bridges,” ; and gathers the men to tell them to leave to the encounter of men not with its strength, but with the coming of God: “be missionaries like Mary, let us be missionaries. Let’s go out, let’s walk, let’s meet with all the men, to change their hearts; but with our strength we can not accept, you must receive jesus Christ”, the same about the image of Santa María la Real de la Almudena. “This is to change the world, this is to make a route of the different story, that the need of this humanity and that you can do because you have future, but do it with the safety of God”, he concluded.
