A reforestation will be held in the La Lagunita, municipality of Matehuala.

  Matehuala, SLP. -. In order to raise public awareness on the problems of pollution and conservation of biodiversity to protect the planet from climate change, April 22, 1970 was instituted worldwide the “Earth Day”

  Through the Ministry of Ecology and Environmental Management, the Government of the State of San Luis Potosi, aware of the importance of a healthy environment, it joins this cause carrying out a reforestation in the Colonia La Lagunita, located in the municipal head of Matehuala with the presence of more than 800 young people and local authorities.

  The Mayor of this municipality, José Everardo Nava, and the Department of Ecology and Environmental Management, Yvett Salazar Torres potosinos invite to join this movement #ProsperemosJuntos #ManosAlaObra #TodosaReforestar # Trees4Earth #DiaDeLaMadreTierra, as the great challenge for the current state administration is that this year 500 hectares of trees are planted throughout the state, that of the need to build a healthy and sustainable environment, and address climate change.

  In this context, the United Nations Program for the Environment, UNEP established the challenge to urge the 196 countries involved, including Mexico, to reforestation activities, because the trees help fight climate change, as they absorb the harmful excess CO2 in our atmosphere, in one year, half a hectare of mature trees absorbs the same amount of CO2 produced by the average driving a car, which is about 42, 000 km.

  Trees help to breathe clean air, they absorb odors and gaseous pollutants (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and particulate filter trapping air in their leaves and bark, plus they help counteract the loss of species and provide greater habitat connectivity between regional forest fragments, plus they help communities and their livelihoods, achieving economic and environmental sustainability in the long term and provide the food, energy, and income.
