Lucía Hiriart, widow of the late Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, also received money from the owners of the Penta group accused of illegally finance some political campaigns in Chile, it was reported yesterday.

Guatemala seeks candidate for OAS Secretariat

Guatemala search the CELAC summit next week in Costa Rica, another candidate for the General Secretariat of the OAS, after the resignation of former vice president Eduardo Stein as a candidate for the office said Yesterday Foreign Minister Carlos Morales.

The presentation of “another possible candidacy” will be a topic to be discussed during the meeting of the 33 countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which will place on 28 and 29 January in Costa Rica, Morales said on Radio Sonora.

“We will leverage (the summit of CELAC) to discuss whether or not another application,” said the chancellor.

The former vice president of Guatemala Eduardo Stein (2004-2008) withdrew on Wednesday its aspiration to charge health problems.
