The war against homework – universia.net.mex

Since the beginning of the academic institutions modern, the teachers they have had, as usual to send assignments home to students so that they can continue working in your home and deepen your knowledge on different topics. However, today questioned how beneficial is this practice, that seems to respond to a model of education obsolete and are not adjusted to the current needs of the students.

Since it became known that one of the keys to the success of the education model of Finland was the removal of duties to students, have generated different discussions on the subject. In Finland, by general agreement, the students attend without taking away tasks to your home and in addition do not have exams for the evaluation of the knowledge (another issue of concern in the area), only require a few tests to finish high school.

In this context, knowing the benefits that come with having no duties, was generated by a battle between families, teachers and educational centres, which discussed the feasibility of eliminating these practices in the educational courses. Duties consume a considerable amount of time if it is calculated on a weekly basis, time that children can devote to tasks more rewarding, according to the thinking of those who argue for its suppression.

The homework not only are annoying for the majority of the students, but also provide an important investment of resources and time to parents, who must become involved and oversee the work of the young people.

according to an evaluation by the OECD, the students of the member countries spend, on average, five hours a week performing homework. There are countries that even have to spend more hours, such as China, where perform these tasks consumes 14 hours a week. Students from countries like Finland, which won the top results, only spend on average three hours, which shows that there may be a relationship between academic success and the completion of homework.

In Mexico this phenomenon is still very recent, but there are already those who have begun to question the utility homework school. In Europe, and particularly in Spain, currently there are groups dedicated to the elimination of these tasks. The Confederation of families of the public institutions (CEAPA), the country has been put in place to eliminate the duties of the educational system. Under the premise of reclaim the free time to the children, the members of this grouping, claiming that the homework belonging to the educational models old and you will not bring any benefit in the learning process.
