The government president Mariano functions Rajoy met with his Popular Party to strategize after parliament rejected his attempt to form a government again, what brings Spain to a third election in a year .

After a first failed attempt to form a government on Wednesday, a new motion was rejected Friday by 180 against 170 votes, as expected. Parliament now has until October 31 to forge a government. Otherwise some third will be called elections in a year, probably on Christmas Day.

The message of party unity was overshadowed by the government’s decision to appoint former industry minister Manuel Soria as a candidate executive director of the World Bank. Soria resigned his ministerial post in April after being linked to an overseas account in the filtration of papers Panama.

Soria says he never directed or owned a company in the Bahamas, although his name appears in documents identifying him as a director of the firm. The party secretary Maria Dolores de Cospedal defended the government’s decision to appoint Soria for the position at the World Bank, saying his experience qualifies you for the job and that he is innocent of the charges resulting from the leak.

Albert Rivera, leader of pro-business Citizens, Rajoy criticized for allowing a former minister who resigned “for having money in tax havens” represent Spain at the World bank. The bank has not yet approved the nomination of Soria.

Citizens recently signed an agreement that includes an anti-corruption under the People’s Party and provided 32 of its legislators to vote for Rajoy in two recent attempts form a government.
