According to the source, the complaint addressed to the European Commission and national and regional administrations of southern Africa also proposes measures to facilitate the entry of electric cars.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that one in eight deaths in 2012 was due to pollution, especially the high concentration of particles suspended in the air, mostly from traffic, industry and powder works.

The situation led to several institutions, including the CSIC, to submit their proposals based on measures taken in countries like Germany, which since 2008 established 60 areas where only low-emission environmentally friendly vehicles can circulate.

The CSIC researcher and project coordinator Airuse Life +, Xavier Querol told the trade publication matter that the study focused on the countries of southern Europe where pollution by particulate matter is more relevant.

The fact that the rain is less abundant in the southern cities makes the atmosphere is not clean and the particles are continuously suspended, Querol said.

The investigation revealed the increase in recent years of emissions of other outbreaks as stoves and boilers biomass due to growth in the consumption of this fuel for the price of other energy sources
