The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the General Secretariat (SEGIB) to facilitate the use of the network of Cultural Centres and Training Centres of Spain in Latin America.
The Ibero-American General Secretary, Rebecca Gynspan, and its predecessor, Enrique Iglesias, and several Latin American ambassadors attended the signing ceremony, held at the Palacio de Viana, home ministry Foreign Affairs.
Spain has a network of 11 cultural centers, 4 and 6 training centers associated centers with local participation, present in 15 countries and received over one million visitors a year.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the signing of this agreement is a reflection of the importance that Spain attaches to one of the great achievements of the Ibero-American summits: the “Ibero-American Cultural Charter.”
This Charter was adopted at the XVI Summit in Montevideo and develop a set of principles and areas of action for the strengthening of Latin American Cultural Space.
With the signing of this memorandum “Spain takes another step in its commitment to the Latin American Cultural Space, making our cultural centers in meeting points in showcases that illustrate all that unites intellectuals, writers and Latin American artists, “adds the note.
Also attending the ceremony were the director of the Cervantes Institute, Victor Garcia de la Concha, Secretary General of International Development Cooperation, Gonzalo Robles, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
