The Spanish police seized 200 kilos of cocaine found inside a pineapple who arrived on a boat from Central America, reported Sunday the Ministry of Interior.
The fruit stuffed with drugs, were found in 10 containers full of pineapples who arrived in the southern port of Algeciras, one of the largest in Europe, it stated the communique ministry.
“Among the thousands of fresh pineapples they contained, were found pieces of fruit that had been emptied and refilled with drug coated with a yellow wax that simulated the color of the pulp PIN a “read the statement.
The pineapples came from a country not revealed in Central America and were destined for two companies, one based in Madrid and another in Sant Quirze del Valles , near Barcelona.
It was reported that both companies are run by Colombian-born Spaniards.
The police arrested three people in connection with their investigation and has not ruled out more arrests.
Last year, police seized in Algeciras 2.5 tons of cocaine hidden in a shipment of pineapples from Costa Rica , one of the largest caches of drugs seized in Spain.
Spain is a major entry point for cocaine entering Europe and in their attempt to gain entry drug traffickers are increasingly using ingenious methods.
