Catalan independence traded early elections – Prensa Latina

January 10, 2015, 13:49 Madrid, Jan 10 (PL) Sectors Catalan independence today announced the start of a campaign for early elections to which aims to give a sense plebiscite on the permanence of this region as part of Spain.

 The president of the NGO Catalan National Congress (ANC), Carme Forcadell, said the goal of the mobilization is to ensure that regional political parties reach an agreement for the conduct of the elections.

It would be disappointing to those who favor self witness as parties are unable to reach agreement, said Forcadell in the city of Porqueres during a meeting of the secretariat of the ANC.

Unable to hold a referendum, secessionist parties promote what they call plebiscitary elections, whereby, to obtain majority considered that parliament emerged from this vote would an independence mandate.

Currently the leader Convergence and Union (CiU) and regional president, Artur Mas, and the leader of Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), Oriol Junqueras, are embroiled in disputes over whether to go to the vote with a single list or more.

But he proposed to hold elections before May with only one candidate of all independence forces, including parties and members of civil society, rejected by Junqueras option

Yesterday, President of Catalonia and CiU opened a proposed both options and go to the polls in separate lists. one CiU with independent figures and other ERC, but only members of that party.

Today ERC Secretary General, Marta Rovira, presented a counterproposal by which his party would give preference to Mas to include independent to consider, and then his party would wishlist but also with members of civil society not integrated with CiU.

The leader of ERC said that it is urgent to hold elections before the regional elections in May because the legislature, he said, is depleted.

Forcadell, meanwhile, announced that Mas summoned next week for a meeting with Junqueras and representatives of other independence organizations, Muriel Casals, of Ãmnium, and Josep Maria Vila d’Abadal of the Association of Municipalities for Independence
