The Spanish security forces yesterday gave a new blow to ETA environment with 16 arrests, 12 lawyers for the prisoners of the armed group and four members of Herrira, collective linked to the inmates of the band and suspended by the Spanish Justice.
The operation involved the postponement of a scheduled macro trial yesterday in Madrid against the leadership of several organizations linked to the radical Basque independence left as Batasuna, which once was the political wing of ETA and is now banned.
Three of those arrested are lawyers of the accused in the case.
For the Ministry of Interior, the operation is “the dismantling of the financial arrangements” that supported the group of lawyers armed group as well as “the disappearance of the structure used by ETA to keep the will of prisoners under guidelines of the band”.
“ETA should it be dissolved, while this does not happen is a terrorist organization that is alive,” said Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz.
