The crash of the F-16 in Albacete was due to a fault – Reuters Spain

PARIS (Reuters) – The crash of F -16 this week in Albacete, which left eleven dead, was due to a failure on takeoff from one of the devices participating in NATO exercises, announced Thursday the Chief of Staff of the French Army Air.

“A patrol Four F-16s took off, when the last of the devices had a problem on takeoff, “said General Denis Mercier at a press conference.

“The crew tried to fly out (…). The plane veered off course and crashed into the French line,” he said.

The official did not specify the nature of the fault. The research that is open mainly focuses on flight logs that have been recovered.

The accident, described as” tragedy “by NATO, occurred on Monday afternoon when the F-16 crashed on one of the parking of aircraft training center and upgrading of pilots at the base Los Llanos (Albacete).

The two Greek pilots nine citizens French died in the accident, in which 20 people were injured, five of them seriously. The bodies of the nine French soldiers were repatriated on Thursday.
