Mohamed VI touts its political and development model in his 17 years as king – Terra Chile

King Mohamed VI of Morocco today trumpeted the “political and development model” that has become his country during his 17-year reign, in a speech marking the anniversary which was broadcast on television in the country from Tetouan (north).

“We have achieved in the course of 17 years make deep political reforms, major economic plans and human development projects that have changed the face of Morocco,” said Alawi sovereign without the least shadow of self-criticism.

The monarch stressed that Morocco “advances without stopping, without oil or gas”, and cited several areas where it has managed to sign with countries strategic agreements: energy, infrastructure, agriculture, the fight against terrorism, management of religious policy and military cooperation.

Mohamed VI justified and that his country wants to “diversify its partners”, beyond citing their “allies” par excellence, France and Spain, countries with which their country he said continues to deepen their relations.

Among the countries to which Morocco seeks open cited Russia, China and India, in addition to the Arab monarchies of the Persian Gulf, but did not mention the United States, a country with which Morocco he has had some disagreements for Western Sahara or their criticisms of human rights in the North African country.

The king insisted that his country has a “stability and tranquility” which explains the growing attraction of foreigners, “particularly French and Spanish”, who choose to live in Morocco “under the protection of the Commander of the Faithful “(ie, himself).

These arguments also explain “the growing number of international companies like Renault, or Chinese companies that perform industrial zone in Tangier, or Russian companies, along with many others, who have chosen to invest in Morocco and disbursing millions to finance their projects. ”

The Alawite monarch is also widely referred to the upcoming legislative elections held his country on October 7 and warned the various parties that must be saved to instrumentalize the role of King during the Bell.

The King delivered the speech in Tetouan, a city that has chosen this year to celebrate today and tomorrow the various ceremonies of the Feast of the Throne and include a political and diplomatic reception, in addition to the ritual “beia” or obeisance.

The latter consists of hundreds of notables (elected or appointed) across the country, compulsorily dressed in a white coat, bending back prostrate themselves before the king on horseback.

When Mohamed VI came to reign in 1999, many expected that ended with rituals that looked like from another time by the servile nature transmitted, namely the “beia” or levee, but the monarch kept the two customs, with slight variations.

As usual at every Feast of the Throne, Mohamed VI pardoned yesterday or nullifies 992 prisoners, including 23 death row inmates who became condemned in perpetuity.

three years ago now, the collective pardon decreed by Mohamed VI included the Spanish pederast Daniel Galvan, sparking a national and international scandal of unprecedented proportions, thus forcing the monarch to recognize his error and revoke its own decision, something that had never happened.

Then the government announced that it would review the system of granting of pardons king -potestad exclusive proposal of the Ministry of Justice, but three years later there has been the slightest reform respect.
