The suffering of terrorists – Excélsior

25 August 2016

Everyone has contributed to the suffering, says Otegi. Will the girl legs mutilated by a bomb contributed to suffering as much as the ETA members who triggered the explosive? Does the widow and children of a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party and the Popular Party or academic brilliant killed by a shot in the neck contributed to suffering as much as those who shot them in the back? Do the relatives of the police or military finalized in cold blood contributed to suffering as much as the slayer? Do hostages in inhumane conditions in a hideout, contributed to suffering as much as their kidnappers?

Otegi must have suffered a lot when the command of military political ETA which linked was carried out the explosion of a gas station , vehicle thefts armed robbery, the assault on the military headquarters in San Sebastian and numerous kidnappings, including the director of Michelin in Vitoria, who was kept in a cave Elgóibar for ten days. No doubt also it suffered unspeakable finding that a bomb victims had been mutilated. His grief must be enormous to think about children orphaned by the attacks that his group perpetrated. His pain was gigantic surely knowing that many citizens left the land where his cradle rocked for fear of terrorist acts or decision not to continue to be extorted.

Do you blame in quantitative terms? Why the victims have not felt remorse for having been victimized? They are not guilty of having been chosen by ETA to be killed or have been in place and the wrong time, ie, in the right place at the moment the bomb that took the life or maimed? Why if everyone has contributed to the suffering in Spain only the terrorists have to feel guilt?

And the Spanish State is not guilty for defending the rule of law to the crimes of terrorists? Is not blame the police for many ETA members arrested and have weakened the terrorist organization to make it abandon the attacks? Are not blame the judges for having condemned the murderers to the penalties provided in Spanish criminal law? Are not blame the political parties and democratic newspapers for not validate the path of terror to impose the political project of terrorists?

What a thing! Otegi reasons: the killings, mutilations, kidnappings, extortion and other crimes perpetrators are not only criminals, but everyone, all Spaniards. Everyone: also the victims and the authorities, whom ETA can not forgive have beaten with weapons of police effectiveness, coherence and democratic judicial firmness. Why put the suffering of the direct victims and the whole of Spanish society, mainly the segment inhabitants of the Basque Country, above the etarras up?

Otegi and his cronies suffered murdering, extorting , abducting, maiming, driving out of their cities dissidents of their coercive nationalism, steamroller and exclusive. Poor, we should pity them! Victims of their murders them avoided any future suffering while ETA surely suffered to wallow masochistically in horror and death of others.

The words of Otegi made me remember other much more memorable. “Never murder will be in my eyes, ‘wrote Chateaubriand in his Memoirs from beyond the grave – an object of admiration and an argument of freedom: I know nothing more servile, more despicable, more cowardly and more obtuse than a . terrorist “
