The authorities of the Catholic Church in the Spanish city of Cordoba agreed to restore Islamic reference in the name of the famous mosque-cathedral to stop referring to it simply as “The Cathedral of Cordoba”.
the decision was greeted Friday by the protest group who complained that they had removed the reference to the mosque in flyers and tickets as an alleged attempt to erase its Islamic past and confuse tourists .
The church association that manages the site said that after several studies and tourism interest the monument will be called Monument Cathedral Mosque Complex.
The mosque was built after the Moorish invasion of Spain in the eighth century but was transformed into a cathedral in the thirteenth century. UNESCO proclaimed world heritage.
