Spain dismisses its ambassador to Belgium after inspection – Terra Peru

Spain ceased its ambassador to Belgium after an internal investigation into what was described as serious anomalies in the functioning of the diplomatic mission in Brussels.

The removal was carried out at the request of Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo. The Cabinet approved the decision and King Philip VI sanctioned before publication in the Official Gazette on Saturday.

Ignacio Matellanes was appointed ambassador of Spain in Belgium in March 2012. He had previously served as ambassador to Nicaragua and as technical secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign besides consul in Brussels and Naples, Italy.

García-Margallo stopped several officials since coming to office in 2011, including the consul in Boston, which decided to close the diplomatic post in their regular schedule two hours after the attacks marathon in 2013, without providing an alternative communication channel emergency.
