“As a lifelong independence will not be a Spanish court who stop me making independence “Junqueras said in an interview with TV3 (Catalan national television), Monday evening, shortly after the Catalan President, Artur Mas, signed the decree calling the elections.

Political reiterated the feasibility of a legal disconnection of Catalonia, a transition process that “may culminate in 6, 8 or 9 months maximum.”

Junqueras also defended the legality of a unilateral declaration of independence by the Catalan Parliament, “MPs are what determine majorities in a democratic Parliament, so we have to get the favorable vote of 50% plus one”.

Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), the party of the president of Catalonia, Artur Mas, and ERC Republicans filed on July 20 officially the independence unitary list that will go to the elections.

More assured of obtaining a majority in parliament will be the first step promote a “solemn declaration” in the Catalan parliament to begin the process of independence.

As for the plebiscitary character of the elections, which the Spanish state does not recognize, the president of ERC said that “citizens are the ones who have to make them plebiscite” because Madrid never recognized as such “because one of its main objectives is to try to prevent the independence of Catalonia.
