A place called home is the first feature film by Greek director Maria Douza, and covers topics such as politics, family, migration and racism. This drama tells the story of Eleni, a Greek woman living in London who travels to his homeland to make peace with his father, who has never forgiven him for moving abroad.
Filmed in the beautiful and amazing Greek countryside, the film presents an astonishing multiculturalism, its protagonists change quickly between English, Serbian and Greek, as the film portrays part of the history of Greece in the last 50 years: the Civil War its diaspora, and the return of its citizens.
Inspired by the wave of migration from Europe to Greece in the 1990s, the director Maria Douza began writing the story in 2003.
