Barcelona, Spain .- The countries of the European Union and the South shore of the Mediterranean pledged Monday to strengthen cooperation and fight against jihadist terrorism at a summit in Barcelona, Spain.
“We must be vigilant to prevent these acts and to relentlessly pursue those responsible. This terrorism knows no boundaries, hits us all regardless of our geographical location or religion,” said Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, stressed DPA.
The issue focused much of the conference, the first of its level meeting in seven years, attended by more than thirty foreign ministers and senior diplomats.
“No security is not possible without political stability and economic development it is not possible,” said Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, in a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh and Egyptian Sameh Shoukry.
These and the head of European diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, urged those present to provide opportunities for young people to avoid being “easy prey” of Jihadism and promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
According Mogherini, the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Tunisia have shown that strong security cooperation between countries in Europe and North Africa is required.
“We must address the question of how overall and have a multilateral cooperation is the only way to solve these challenges successfully, “said the Egyptian minister.
Spain propose in October before the Security Council United Nations to create a dedicated ICC exclusively to terrorist crimes.

The High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU proposed that the meeting be held on Monday annually.

The meeting was organized by Spain, the European Commission and Latvia, which currently holds the EU presidency. Besides the EU countries participated Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. Neither Libya nor Syria were invited by their internal conflicts.
