Representatives from more than 30 countries of the European Union (EU) and the southern Mediterranean addressed this Monday (4/13/2015) in Barcelona, in northeastern Spain, how to strengthen cooperation with problems like Jihadist terrorism.
“On both sides have cried together for the victims of barbarism, bigotry and injustice. Some are not aware, but the jihadist terrorism is the main threat,” said the president of Spanish government, Mariano Rajoy, at the opening ceremony of the conference.
Rajoy stressed the need to work together to address the problem and referred to the arrest last week of 11 suspected jihadists planned attack in the region of Catalonia.
“We must be vigilant to prevent these acts and to relentlessly pursue those responsible (…) This terrorism knows no boundaries, hits us all regardless of our situation Geographic or religion, “he said.

Foreign ministers and representatives participating in the summit will also address other issues such as irregular immigration, energy or trade. “We share a region of more turmoil in the world, but not us and you. It’s not an edge over the other. We’re in this together. We are all neighbors and we must work together in our common interest,” said High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Federica Mogherini.

The work will be done through two parallel tables, chaired by the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, and Mogherini. The summit will coincide diplomats responsible for Israel and Palestine, but are expected to work on different tables.
