A teacher was killed and four others were injured after the attack carried out today by a thirteen year old boy armed with a crossbow and a knife on a secondary school in Barcelona (northeast), a fact that has caused a deep commotion in Spain.
The child, student center, was reduced by a gym teacher and detained by police, after which he was taken to a hospital for a medical examination and assess their mental and psychological state.
The boy arrived today with some delay to class, around 09.15 local time (07.15 GMT) and when his teacher opened the door he shot him with the crossbow near the face, causing several injuries.
An alumna of the class, the daughter of the wound professor, went to help his mother and the assailant stabbed him in the leg, although both life is not in danger.
Then, according to several witnesses, the boy out of his backpack a ‘Molotov cocktail’ that had been prepared in a beer bottle and threatened to blow it up, so that students in the class got scared and started to flee.
The boy went upstairs, where several students were also outside the classroom, attracted by the screaming coming from downstairs and there a teacher came over and stabbed in the chest, what caused his death.
After killing the teacher, the young indiscriminately fired the crossbow and randomly drew his machete, causing injury to another teacher and another student, although the status of these not in danger.
The late Professor was 36 and spent ten days at the center, which carried out a substitution.
According to police the crossbow was normal but the arrows he used were handmade.
After committing the attack the boy was reduced by a teacher, when he was very upset and cried in which he said he had to kill people.
The school teachers were immediately called to the boy’s parents, who have attended school and was advised that the police raided the family home, if they find evidence to clarify what happened.
Since it is under fourteen years, and according to Spanish law, the offender can not be criminally charged for this action.
A team of psychologists was mobilized to serve students and teachers, some very disturbed by the drama.
The Barcelona district in which the student center is reacted with surprise and regret at the incident starring a guy who, according to some of his colleagues, was quite alone.
Most of the students, some weeping and others with anxiety attacks, have remained this morning in the square in front of the institute, while commenting on the incident between them and journalists.
“You said you wanted to kill all the teachers and then himself,” said a student. “I was blacklisted,” added another. “He always talked about weapons and wanted to be military,” noted a third party.
Although each year are recorded in Spain cases of attacks on teachers by students or parents of these, today is the first to have a fatality.
