June 27, International Day of the Deaf-Blind – The Nacional.com

Socieven, Deafblind Venezuela AC, 21 years of activities in the country and has therefore prepared a schedule of special events to celebrate and also raise awareness of the existence and needs of people with deafblindness in Venezuela, which it estimated at about 5,000 people.

According to the “Declaration of Basic Needs of Deaf-Blind persons” (Stockholm, 1989), on June 27 is the International day of the Deaf-Blind in honor of the birthday of the political activist, speaker and writer Hellen Keller, first deafblind person to have completed university studies (1904), a great example of overcoming. That day the world will develop actividadescon the aim of raising awareness about the existence of this disability. In Venezuela, Socieven working since 1995 to help people with severe hearing loss and vision, leading to serious communication problems. Deafblind people are able to communicate and develop with the use of visual or auditory rest having and using their other senses: touch, taste and smell.

In 21 years of existence, Socieven has located and has registered a total of 744 people living in deafblindness in different states, has supported around 576 with more than 4,188 benefits including medical evaluations, consulting , visits to the home or school, provision of canes, magnifiers, among others. Much work remains to be done, the most immediate goal is to locate the first 1,000 people with this condition and further promote their participation in society by providing education.

The Month celebration Deafblind beginning 1 June and runs until July 31 with an extensive schedule of activities ranging from the selection of candidates for the Specialization Deafblind and Disability Multiple visits to the Model House, visits to communities in different regions of the country and the 5th. Socieven Golf Tournament – “COPA 21 Anniversary” held on June 16 at the Caracas Country Club. More than 5,000 people nationwide, including people with deafblindness, professionals, parents and relatives they have benefited from training courses imparting Socieven in different regions of the country on how to deal with this difficult condition. For this, the institution develops various training programs, Counseling, Evaluation, Meetings Population and Family Products and Activities Five Senses in Action, Introduce deafblindness and Socieven National Network.

Socieven is an association civil nonprofit dedicated to promoting improvements in the lives of deaf blind people in their family and their direct environment, whose development is possible thanks to the support of private companies and individuals such as “Prodigy Network”, National Bank of Credit , Ferregraphic, Carabobo Ceramics, Bancaribe, Life Insurance, Atlantic Developments, Taurel, Ron Ocumare, Ponche Crema, Bakery Alicante, Las Bogota Group, Sazingg, Deep & amp; Saatchi and Neri Design Group, collaborating as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility; the help of professionals, ambassadors volunteers, members, partners, media, families of deafblind people, the State Authority promoters, institutions and the community in general.

The time is right to make a call to the UNIDO work among institutions of deafblindness that exist in the country, the state, the various agencies, families, businesses, individuals, community and the same population with deafblindness.
