Marches for Dignity take Madrid – The Times

Thousands of participants in the march for Dignity peacefully yesterday filled the central Plaza de Colón and surroundings to protest in Madrid against the effects of the austerity policies implemented by the government during the crisis.

“Hundreds of thousands” of attendees, organizers, and between 10,000 and 12,000, according to police sources, joined the movement, convened by 300 social organizations and unions under the slogan: “Bread, work, housing and dignity. “

Despite the rain falling on Madrid, demonstrators entered the capital in nine columns from all Spanish regions converged in this square.

At the end of the march, two of the promoters of it, Pilar Muñiz and Ernesto Sarabia, read a manifesto demanding “a life with dignity” and defend “minimum program” as a step towards the general strike “labor, consumer and social” of October 22.
