Turkey meets state of emergency ensures legality and does not affect tourism – Terra Peru

The Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Nabi Avci, said today that the state of emergency declared in the country yesterday does not affect tourism, civilians or the “functioning of everyday life” as its goal it is only “eliminate” the perpetrators and supporters of the coup.

The minister, who is in Madrid for the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the World Tourism Organization, said the state of emergency allows “rapid action” to “defend democracy” and is being implemented in “moderation” that correspond to the Convention on Human Rights of the UN.

Avci gave as an example to France, which also established the state of emergency because of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The attempted coup that suffered Turkey Friday night to Saturday, and that the Turkish Government attaches to a group led by Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, failed because the people and civil society “deconstructed” took to the street and confronted the coup, he said.

The US authorities have already received a report with evidence linking the coup with the “terrorist organization” headed by Gulen, who lives in Pennsylvania, so if they refuse to extradite him this will be a “responsibility” lies with the US authorities.

“I am confident that my counterparts (US) act in allowing them the rule of law,” he said.

Avci said that this group has perpetrated for three decades, “a well-organized systematic filtration (in the Turkish state)” is and has become to society as “an organization with appearance legal, but it is illegal, “he said.

They have supporters in the Turkish Armed Forces, the educational system, the world of business, and besides in Turkey, he is currently developing “illegal activities, but legal aspect” in more than hundred countries.

Regarding the concerns expressed today by a spokesman for the German government for images of suspects in the coup that appear to have been subjected to violence, the minister warned that his country has a “policy zero to torture “and that the coup attempt generated numerous situations of violence between the coup leaders and the population.

On the other hand, Avci hoped that the EU-Turkey agreement on refugees envisaged a breakthrough in negotiations to free visa to Turkish citizens hold the set timetable.

“Turkey has fulfilled and will fulfill everything that was in the agreement, our colleagues also have their responsibility in facilitating visas,” he said.

On the other hand, the Turkish politician attributed the “popular acclamation” of reinstating the death penalty in the country as a response to the “hard” images of what happened in the tanks have come to crush people defending the constitutional order.

The reintroduction of the death penalty would require an amendment to the Constitution and the establishment of the state of emergency “has nothing to do with such demands” on the other hand, it exist in many other countries, he added.

Since last Saturday, more than 11,000 people have been arrested, including more than 6,000 military and 750 judges and prosecutors, and have been suspended from their positions around 28,000 Turkish officials (21,000 of them employees of the Ministry of Education), a situation that still will not affect the “normal functioning of Turkish institutions,” he said.

“When a body in some cancer cells are removed, (…) works best,” argued the Turkish official, who says that those involved not abided by “orders” of the institution where they work but responded to interests propios.EFE
