Concluded with success the First National Congress of Craftsmen Dominican – El Nuevo Diario (Dominican Republic)

EL NUEVO DIARIO,, SANTO DOMINGO.- With the participation of artisans from all over the national territory, international experts, government entities, students and special guests, was held the First National Congress of Craftsmen Dominicans (CONGRESART 2016) is dedicated to the memory of the craftsman, artist and fighter, revolutionary, Manuel de Jesús Checo Loubriel (Pachiro).

The commission, which organized the congress worked from the 11 to the 25 of September in meetings, focal so-called "Congresillos Regional"; sold out its work agenda in the General Assembly of Findings that was conducted on 8 and 9 October of the current year in the Centro Cultural de las Telecomunicaciones Santo Domingo.

The First National Congress of Craftsmen gathered up the situations and needs of the artisans and made proposals of solution, based on a situational analysis, at the national level, through application forms, interviews, and random sampling simple.

During its development, we analyzed and discussed the situations, both at the local level as sectoral on the basis of seven thematic areas or work tables; some of them are: "Craftsmanship, value, and cultural identity"; "Design and quality of handmade products", "Legal Framework", "well-being of the artisan", among other topics.

In the same context, the participants considered documents such as the Strategic Plan of Dominican Handicrafts, prepared by the National Center for Craftsmanship (CENADARTE); the Vice-ministry of Smes (MIC-SME) with the collaboration of the Program Progress of the Vice-presidency of the Republic. Similarly, the working groups focused on reviewing and making input to the Project of Law for the Promotion, Development and Competitiveness of Dominican Handicrafts, a proposal that had the support of senator Cristina Lizardo Mezquita, considered "the godmother of the artisans dominicans".

The objective of this first congress is to identify and systematize all the needs, potentialities and opportunities of the handicraft sector, and organize them into a strategic plan of national scope, as the instrument basis for the development of the sector to be implemented in four years (2016-2020), in order to boost the consolidation of the sector, the development of dominican handicrafts, and general welfare of the artisans. This final report will be delivered to President Danilo Medina, on the occasion of 11 October, the date in that is celebrated on the Day of the Craftsman with the Dominican republic.

international Experts from Ecuador, Mexico and Bolivia shared their experiences with the craftsmen and artisans dominicans. Names such as: Fausto Ordonez, director of the inter-American Center of Crafts and Folk Arts of Ecuador (CIDAP); Victor Hugo Villarroel, director of the Chamber of Exporters of Handicrafts of Cochabamba, Bolivia; the well-known designer mexican Ariel Rojo, director of Red Design Studio, among others.

The National Committee responsible for this activity is coordinated by the master craftsman and businessman Jorge Caridad, president of the Foundation for the Development of Dominican Handicrafts (FUNDARTE), the renowned maestro José Ignacio Morales (THE ARTISTIC); make it up, in addition, Santiago Espinal, president of the Dominican Federation of Artisans (FEDARTE); Pedro Castro, and Beloved Carmona of the Association of Artisans of Boca Chica; Julio Cesar Ubiera of the Neighborhood Front Community of Artisans (FREBADECO); Ramón Guillén of Guillén Brothers, Ramon Gonzales, of the Cooperative of Artisans; Miriam Ortega, of the Chamber of Trade and Craft Production (CAMAARD) and other industry leaders like Abel Castillo, Jeffry Fricá, Kennedy Reynoso, Faustino de la Rosa (Guayacan), Joseph Damiano, Victor Suleiman, Luis Rodríguez, Bartolomé Tejada, Eddy Diaz, Josefina de la Rosa, Lucia Reyes; the artisans of the Association of Fans of Amber and cooperatives Larimar de Bahoruco, Barahona.

The operational coordination was in charge of Valentín Guerrero, director general of the National Centre of Handicraft (CENADARTE) who served as moderator of the discussions.

The technical workings of the event were made by Ayalivis Garcia, Ruben Castillo, Graciela Garcia, Mauricia Dominguez, Tania Pineda,Miguel Cabrera, and professor Leonardo Diaz.

Among the panelists and local experts, participated in Joseph Deferrari, Miguel Pimentel, Virginia Rock, Valentín Guerrero and Escipion Oliveira.

The panel of successful entrepreneurs was composed by Jorge Caridad, José Ignacio Morales, Miguel Angel, Camilo, Nelson Fulgencio, Laura Tosato, Ramon Guillen and Mark Brador.

students of the school of Interior Design, Architecture, Arts, Economics, Tourism and Law of the university UASD and UNPHU were invited to participate. Visual artists, Leidy Jorge and Otto Miguel Viloria were responsible for producing the memories of the dedication to the master Pachiro Czech.

the acts of the General Assembly of Findings was attended by important personalities from Government, politics and civil society.

Conclusions and proposals:

The Commission, the National Organizer said that in the next few days will be a press conference to publicize the findings and proposals emerging from this First National Congress of Craftsmen Dominicans We are Dominican Republic, 2016!
