on The 12th of October we celebrate the Discovery of America, Columbus Day, Feast of the Race, Race Day or Columbus Day that seems to be the most appropriate. This date comes from celebrate from January of 1913 at the suggestion of the ex-Mayor and ex-Minister Faustino Rodríguez San Pedro, whose purpose was to honor the memory of Christopher Columbus and to express spiritual intimacy existing between Spain and the nations discovered. What was a laudable initiative, with the passing of the years has been distorting the commemoration with other interpretations, including giving the pejorative label of "race".
Race refers to a group of biological species in consideration of a succession of physical characteristics on the whole, that is passed on genetically. In man the term gives precedence to some over others, that is why the word "race" has been questioned and now agreed to abandon the word and replace it by that of ethnicity. The ethnic group represents a conglomerate of all human members are identified, usually based on a real or presumed genealogy and common ancestry, with historical ties and traditional cultural practices, which they claim for themselves a social and political structure, and a territory delimited.
The "race" has brought more disagreements tolerances, that is why it is better to speak of "ethnicity" that beyond examining anatomical features or skin color, it blends the body and the soul with its diversifications social. The date has been distanced from its essence, to be devoted solely to the nationalities indigenous subjugated. They are the ones who claim rights, and issued proclamations, some anchored in the support to indigenous communities and others with vision cosmopolitita that focuses its actions on the need of identification, belonging, and citizenship, in such a way that all are equal, with the same rights and obligations, and be able to live without prejudice in any place of the world.
This day must be taken advantage of to let go of the pettiness, the lust for power that blinds the leaders and rulers. To them who proclaim christian principles and denuestan farisaicamente of racism, remind them of the biblical passage where Jesus encourages the children to leave the parents, in the sense of to peel off, to strip ourselves of the burden of authoritarianism and conceit. So I says to the apostles: "take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats apiece. In any house you enter, stay there, and thence depart": No palace is eternal, less for the tenants of Carondelet; that’s why the need for the rulers to reflect on the exegesis of Luke 9. (Or)
