BMW has a “panic button” for motorcyclists – Red Erbol

We’ve spent years watching automakers introduced in many of their vehicles systems standard or optional which had an emergency system: A panic button that would allow that in any situation the driver or passengers could press that button to contact urgently with support services.

Now that development has finally reached the world of motorcycles by BMW, which just introduced its intelligent emergency Call (IEC), a technology “smart” anyone driving one of their motorcycles can activate but has special relevance when talking about the fact that it also only active when detecting different emergency situations.

An idea that we hope will spread other manufacturers

the sensors in which this system is based provide information on the tilt angle of the bike or its acceleration, and can not only detect if we have actually suffered a fall but the possible severity of it based on that data

BMW.: Intelligent Emergency Call

So, a slight fall will provide a period in which we may cancel that call, while a grave will make contact with emergency services occur instantaneously. The eCall system that already works for cars since 1999 and will be mandatory for all vehicles BMW in 2018 allow you to make that call with location data to provide the most effective and rapid assistance possible.

IEC initially hit the German market in early 2017 and then gradually extended to other European countries shortly thereafter. It remains to be seen whether other manufacturers integrate this technology, but of course this seems a logical step for a segment in which users are much more vulnerable than those who go by car step
