Eleven people were injured in a third night of clashes between authorities and protesters supporting a group called squat in Barcelona, in the northeast of Spain.
Dozens of protesters set fire to several trash bins and vandalized storefronts and banks, according to a spokesman for the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan regional police. Unrest in the Gracia district lasted until early Thursday. The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity in line with police regulations.
Six officers and five demonstrators were treated for minor injuries. One person was arrested.
Protesters want Squatters be allowed to return to an empty bank branch that had occupied for years, and used it as a “community center” until their eviction on Monday. They have promised to protest for five for a long period.
