At least eight elderly were killed and another 12 injured in a fire in a nursing home today Santa Fe, in the municipality of Zaragoza Cuarte de Huerva.
The fire occurred early this morning, to catch the mattress of the bed in a room, for reasons that have not yet transpired, highlighted the Spanish newspaper El País .
The dead are all residents of the nursing home . Early data suggest that the deaths were caused by smoke inhalation.
Meanwhile, 12 injured symptoms of poisoning.
The government delegate in the region, Gustavo Alcalde , he reported that the incident is under investigation. He added that one of the caretakers of the center was hospitalized.
A man with severe burns was admitted to the intensive care unit of a local hospital, also confirmed the spokesman of the regional health service, Sebastian Celeya. Other affected it suffered smoke inhalation, he said.
The fire appears to have started in a bedroom on the first floor of the three-story building, the fire department spokesman Carlos Carilla said. The fire department responded to a phone call from a person who asked him to help evacuate the elderly and said a mattress in a room was on fire.
