The number of organ donors in the first six months of the year in Spain rose to 936, which allowed for 2,385 transplants and an increase of 11.2% over the same period in 2014, considered historical figures .
According to data from the National Transplant Organization (ONT), which has had access Efe, if this trend continues, by the end of the year Spain will be over 40 donors per million people, amount it approaches the challenge set for 2020.
During the first quarter of 2015, Spain registered 94 donors than in the first six months of last year due mainly to donations after cardiac death ( heart-beating) which increased by 50%, while brain-dead donors have done by 6%, a figure also significant.
The ONT highlights that donors after cardiac death now represent 17 % of the total and is especially notable increase donation in asystole -patients controlled by those who can do nothing and are in the ICU with breathing asistida- increased by 192%.
This increase in the number of donors it has also allowed an increase of 11.2% in transplants. They have gone from the 2,144 that were made in the first half of 2014 to 2,385 this year (241 more) and this growth occurs in all organs except the lungs.
So, kidney transplants have grown by 11.6%, the liver by 14%, the 4.4% of heart, the pancreas 40.5% and 100% gut.
