The Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, said he is prepared to put a stop to any attempt at independence in Catalonia if regional elections in September generate a majority of pro-independence lawmakers who try to advance the issue.
Rajoy commented on Tuesday as several Catalan parties prepare their list of candidates pro-secession for the election of September 27th the Catalan Parliament.
The Catalan Convergence and Democratic Left parties see the election as a Republican a vote on the independence and promise to push unilaterally for Catalonia was separated from Spain if they obtain the majority of seats in the regional parliament.
Rajoy said that a declaration of independence of Catalonia would be unconstitutional and Tuesday assured that Spain “is ready for any problem that some people may create in the future” with the intent of Catalan independence.
