Madrid Protocol signatories include 25 years of protection of Antarctica – Terra Peru

The signatory countries of the Madrid Protocol highlighted today, 25 years after the historic commitment over Antarctica, the full force of the ban on activities related to mining and the need for responsible tourism and controlled in frozen continent.

“Time has shown that it was a right decision at the right time (…), to celebrate today the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Protocol, are renewing our commitment to the path that began exactly a quarter century, “said Chilean Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros acting.

Riveros intervened Monday in Santiago in one of the sessions of the XXXIX Consultative Meeting of the Antarctic Treaty (ATCM), where a balance of protocol operation was performed and also the challenges addressed associated with the care of the Antarctic environment.
