Leopoldo Lopez Gil: “It is sad that Venezuela needed humanitarian aid” – Deutsche Welle

DW: We are in Lisbon where the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly meets. There are European parliamentarians who advocate the European Union to provide humanitarian aid to Venezuela. What do you think about

Leopoldo Lopez Gil: It is admirable that there MEPs advocate for humanitarian aid to Venezuela. It is very sad that requires it, because it is a country with immense potential wealth, incapable administration which has come to live a crisis like we are living today. Lacking food, medicines and we are losing lives. Electricity failures have prevented, for example, incubators give the necessary heat. Two weeks ago over a hundred infants died within seven days.

around the assembly meeting , civil society organizations and you, as opposition have organized a series of events such as the presentation of the book “the voice of the Venezuelan diaspora,” Thomas Paez. You yourself live in Madrid. Do you part of that diaspora is considered?

No. The diaspora refers more to people who have taken the decision to leave Venezuela because it seems impossible living conditions. Either because they have suffered kidnappings, murders his family. Or because they have closed their job opportunities. I’m out of my country not by choice but by the will of the government that persecutes me, like my son has pursued. As soon have the opportunity to return, I will return.
