The head of the Ministry of Marine Affairs of Galicia met with representatives of the shellfish industry walk to address the draft Aquaculture Act of Galicia.

In this regard, given the criticism of privatization space in the public domain, the Galician official argued that there “is no article of the draft law which envisages aquaculture privatization.” In fact he said that there are “outstanding examples which show that the Administration intends to privatize or nothing grant the use of space in the public domain to multinational companies. “

One of them recalled, it is that between 2011 and 2015 more than 500 rafts changed ownership and none of them happened to be managed by a multinational.

Quintana stressed that his ministry began six years ago its commitment to aquaculture, and explained that the Galician regional government drew Aquaculture Strategy (ESGA), the initiation of the Director of Coastal Aquaculture (PDAL) Plan and aquaculture bill “sufficient time” for society to know to where they wanted to go.

“The ESGA was on public display for eight months and had no arguments, and PDAL has 31 allegations, which are already included in the draft law on aquaculture,” he said the minister .

In addition, he reiterated that the text is not in any legislative process and that “only public exhibition”.

In this regard, said that what made the regional government was to submit a draft sector law so that, after analyzing the sector expose their doubts in order to clarify or that that is not so clear enough.

“We are willing to sit down with them to discuss what they fear this draft and explain what the purpose of the law and where we want to walk in aquaculture,” he concluded head of the Ministry of the Sea.
