On February 23, 1981 was an attempt coup in Spain. At that time the political uncertainty adversely affected the economic performance of a nation that was in its infancy transition to full democracy under the rule of the CDU led by President Adolfo Suarez.
On that day, six in the afternoon, a group of civil guards under the command of Lt. Col. Antonio Tejero, stormed the room where the investiture of Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo be held as president of the nation. There with pistol in hand Tejero spread terror among the deputies, who fell to the ground upon hearing the first shot as a result of the courageous reaction of the Deputy Prime Minister Lieutenant General Gutierrez -the Mellado- who ordered the coup leaders to lay down their weapons. Adolfo Suarez, the outgoing president and who had resigned on 29 January, and the deputy Santiago Carrillo of the PCE sat in their seats.
Thirty-five years later Spain is going through a new episode of political uncertainty. After the general elections, it has not been possible to form a government. This situation negatively impacts a nation that has managed to significantly improve the economic situation, accelerating their growth and job creation. The Spaniards deserve to be achieved as soon as possible to establish a government that allows the adoption of the measures necessary to continue the economic recovery and the improvement of living conditions of its population
