MADRID (AP) _ The Spanish court Friday ordered the imprisonment of a man who hid her eight years in a suitcase to go to Spain in the enclave of Ceuta in North Africa.
The father, a native of Ivory Coast, and a woman from Morocco who carried the suitcase with the child inside are accused of “a crime against the rights of foreign citizens.”
Ceuta government took over child custody. The incident occurred on Thursday at the land border between Ceuta and Morocco, which travel daily dozens of people.
The Civil Guard found that the woman, who has no family relationship was nervous as he waited in the row. When his turn came the officers required to pass the bag through the scanner, where they observed the human figure of the child. The Civil Guard opened the suitcase immediately and provided health care to children.
An hour after the incident a person of Ivory Coast with a residence permit in Spain he approached the crossing, which aroused suspicions in police.
After several questions admitted he was the child’s father who was in the suitcase and was immediately arrested, the Civil Guard said in a statement.
